The RFC is looking for Area Organizers who will be responsible for coordinating smaller areas within the region. Depending on how the Regional Coordinator breaks down his/her region, this could mean anywhere from a portion of a state to 3 smaller states. Area Organizers will be crucial in spreading RFC to new schools and keeping schools in their area connected through events and trainings. This is an unpaid position.
Responsibilities include:
Outreach
- Providing support and communicating to participating schools
- Outreach to schools not yet participating
- Finding partners and allies in the community (e.g. grower cooperatives)
Event Planning
- Organizing events in the area – e.g. movie screenings, speakers, trainings, conferences
- Serving on the planning committee for the annual Regional Summit
Communications
- Setting up a listserv and/or blog for area
- Serving as liaison between schools and the Regional Coordinator
- Keeping the Regional Coordinator updated with area events and providing school information for the online database
Training/Support
- Area Organizers will be supported by their Regional Coordinators and by each other
- Organizers will receive training from their Regional Coordinators at least once a year
Accountability and Relationships
- Report to the Regional Coordinator
- Set personal and campaign goals every semester
Requirements/Qualifications
- Current student is preferred
- A passion for creating social change through “real food” and excitement about the RFC vision.
- Experience organizing a diverse collaborative effort is desirable
- A familiarity with what is happening on campuses in your region concerning food and/or sustainability is desirable.
- Ability to commit an average of 4 hours/wk over a 9-month period (one entire school year). The busiest times will be the weeks leading up to the Regional Summit, which will require the commitment of at least one weekend.
