Spread the food revolution through music: Go Live: Real Food Tour!

on December 21, 2009

Take part in the Go Live: Real Food Tour!

This spring promises to be huge for the Real Food Challenge.  Between January and July, members of the Real Food Challenge are taking part in the Go Live: Real Food tour, a nationwide concert series put on by Go Live and the Real Food Alliance (read on for descriptions of both groups).

The Go Live: Real Food tour is the first step in a major public education campaign about real food.  We're focusing on booking tour dates at colleges and universities across the country and we need your help.  If you're interested in bringing unforgettable performances to your school for a good cause, please be in touch with Marissa - mgrossman@thefoodproject.org.

This is an incredible opportunity to bring great talent to your school and to take part in a tour with a big impact--all proceeds from the Go Live: Real Food tour will benefit a major concert and campaign kick-off in July!

As you know, students are in the midst of a food revolution on campus. They are demanding fair wages for workers, planting vegetables in campus gardens, and making significant changes in food purchases to reflect their values of just and sustainable food. And things are about to get even bigger.

Go Live, an initiative of Our Power of One whose mission is to obliterate poverty through the harnessing of creative energy and buying power of communities, and The Real Food Alliance, an emerging group of individuals who are working towards creating a more just food system (including members of the Real Food Challenge), are teaming up to launch a mass public education campaign around real food. The goal is to put food issues on everyone's radar, including major politicians. With public service announcements, music to inspire, and directed political action, we will show people that the food movement is demanding serious change. Every person and institution from the corner store to the White House, from a mother in the middle of the country to the urban teenager on the coast of California, will be empowered to take back control of the food system. To that end, we need your help moving the conversation from the educated few to the poorly informed many!

Music is a great way to reach a wide, diverse audience, so we are using concerts as a tool to spread the message and unite people around food. We will begin the Go Live: Real Food concert tour in January and continue through July, when it will culminate with a big national concert. Right now we are looking to book tour dates at universities, and this is where you come in. You like good live music! We got some great talent! Your school or organizing body can book a concert featuring Jennifer Johns (and other indie talent to be announced as they are secured) and/or a workshop/lecture surrounding food and its multifaceted effects on communities. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the campaign and the concert in July.

If you are interested in organizing an event for January-May please be in touch.  Contact Marissa Grossman from the Real Food Challenge at mgrossman@thefoodproject.org.  Bookings will run between $5000-$10,000 (performance and workshop).  We will have music, books, t-shirts and art to sell to assist us in reaching our goal as well.  Please get involved however you can, even if a concert doesn't work for you.  Feel free to contact us and let us know how you would like to be of support.

It's time to turn up the volume on the food movement, and given your current work, we hope you will want to take part.
