Top 10 Moments from Food Day 2013

on November 15, 2013
What happened on Food Day this year on our nation's college campuses? Well, over 100,000 people at over 300 schools gathered to learn, eat, and take action together to celebrate the food system when it's working -- when it's healthy, affordable, sustainable, and just -- and challenge it when it's not. Here's a snapshot of what that looked like:
10. The Real Food Wheel made appearances all over tons of campuses:
The University of Alabama
Michigan State University
The University of New Hampshire
9. Carleton College's Food Truth in Northfield, MN did a farm bike tour!
8. Slow Food at The University of Wisconsin, Madison, hosted an entire week of Food Day events, including this panel and full house Slow Food meal!
7. University of Georgia students painted an amazing real life Face In Hole and tweeted these photo petitions at UGA Food Services. Naturally, a zombie showed up to show support.
6. Tufts BEATS, a percussion ensemble, spiced up Tufts’ Food Day event in Boston, MA!

5. Students at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke got their Chancellor to pose in a shot with them!
4. The  University of New Hampshire did an entire Month of Food Citizenship -- check out just one week of it!
3. Hakim Bellamy, Albuquerque's first Poet Laureate, created this poem, "Food Evolution" for us!
2. The University of Massachusetts Amherst, Johns Hopkins University, AND The University of Montana signed onto the Real Food Campus Commitment! UMass is the largest self-operated university in the country to do so, and Hopkins surprised everyone by signing onto an even higher percentage -- 35%!!
